Welcome to my series 31 Days of Preparedness.
Some of you may already know that we are Preppers. Not the Doomsday kind. Not the Tin Foil Hat wearing kind. We are actually quite normal. Well. Mostly.
Our journey to emergency preparedness started after watching a series called The Colony
Did I think the things in the reality show could really happen? Not really, but it did open my eyes.
We live rurally. Meaning 5 miles to the nearest Safeway, 35, give or take, to the nearest Costco or Target. We also live up north, where it snows, often. Sometimes a lot.
It started innocently enough with an extra can or two of soup. Maybe an extra thing of sugar from Costco. Just to have a few extra days of food on hand in case of a snowstorm.
Next thing I know we have a hand pump for the well in case of power outage. I have barrels to store water. I have a way to boil said water without power.
It is NOT because we lack faith or that He won’t take care of us. Quite the contrary.
I found like minded people on Twitter and Facebook. Started watching news that wasn’t mainstream media. Our prepping went into overdrive.
I read this as it was being Tweeted. Eye opening…
In this series I will share with you what I have learned in the last eighteen months.
- Acronyms in regards to preparedness
- Food, water, shelter
- Having a Family Plan
- Bug out or Bug in
- Diet and Exersize
- Resources (books and websites)
- Skills to Have
- Comforts of Home
These are a few of the topics I plan to cover. I have a post for each day with the exception of weekends…so far.
I also have an Amazon store.
I have added items that I have found useful on this preparedness journey. There are also books I have read and movies I have watched that have helped.
I look forward to sharing what I know. I am no expert, but I will answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability.
