Not Back to School Day in the Life

Most days you will see the kids working on their Teaching Textbooks….it took me 6 years of homeschooling to finally cave in to buying this AMAZING curriculum. Hence the reason it is only 7th grade. They are behind. But the love it!

You might find us helping the Principal build a chicken coop

Or participating in a production at our local play house.

Emily has an eye for photography. She takes the camera with us many times or just uses my iPhone.

Jesse is very much into video editing. He has decided that he wants to go to school for it when he is old enough for college.

Our days are never the same. We don’t use text books for our learning. I follow Charlotte Mason’s ideas, but I think we fall under the ‘unschooling’ title….if we need a title.

Not Back To School: Curriculum

Today is the first link up for Not Back to School blog hop…Curriculum.
I am going to share what works for us. We are Charlotte Mason/Unschoolers. That said, I still feel there are some subjects I need my kids to know. Math is one of them that I do use actual curriculum for. We have gone the living math route….love the books, but my kids didn’t retain enough.

So enters Teaching Textbooks

I wouldn’t say my kids LOVE it because, honestly, who loves math.

Math is the only real curriculum we use. Every other subject we use library books, videos, or Netflix. We love a god documentary vs reading a boring text book.

This year we are studying American Government and Civics.

Back to Homeschool week 4~The Plan

BackToHomeSchool2011
The Plan….every homeschool mom has a plan. Some maybe rigid and scheduled….others may just be happy that they are able to get math done some days.

This year I am using Well Planned Day.  I won it! I have yet to use a planner and still be using it by the end of the school year. This planner may be different.  I would use my iPhone if it were bigger….hmmm maybe an iPad would be better….I digress…
I have entered  er written in all we need for our States study, Presidents study, and Forensics science.  Also for music and artists for the year. Still need a plan for language arts, which will be The Write Foundation and math. I think Life of Fred for math?????? I also have a literature guide from Simply Charlotte Mason.
So I think we are in business. I think….
