On Faith

OneWord2013_faith

This year my One Word is FAITH.

Keep the FAITH?

Be FAITHFUL?

Did you know the word FAITH is in the Old Testament 2 times? (NKJV)
Did you know it’s in the New Testament 272 times?! (NKJV)

When I chose this word I had it in my head Keep the Faith.
As in have no worries,God has my back. My days are God breathed.
Even in the valleys He has my back. Especially in the valleys.

I am not saying we don’t have free will. I can’t go on a shopping spree when the mortgage is due and then go on to say “Oh. I have FAITH that He will have my back and cover the mortgage.” No. That’s not FAITH, that’s stupidity.

I took a spiritual gifts test online recently. My highest score on the list of gifts? FAITH
Mercy and Wisdom were close behind. But FAITH was out in front.
I have sometimes felt that I had FAITH to a fault.
Can you have too much FAITH? Is it normal to have FAITH?

I FULLY believe He directs my path daily.

I may have a plan of how I think my day should go, but if it is interuppted by a phone call or a drop in friend then THOSE moments are God appointments.

Matthew 17:20 (NIV) He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Do I feel this way everyday? No. I have down days. Or months. BUT….I can tell you the days I feel I lack FAITH are the days I KNOW I need to get deeper into the word. Closer to Him. Lacking FAITH, for me, usually means a disconnect from God.

Do you have FAITH of a Mustard Seed? Do you let God guide and lead your day? Or do you let yourself get annoyed when your plan is derailed.

He Knows You

We have two young adult sons. They are as different as black and white.

One is all redneck
One is hipster

One is blonde
One is brunette

One is a preacher
One is a wild land fire fighter

One has walked away from God many times.
One had a drug problem. Being drug to church all the time.
Our oldest went to Job Corp at 16, so until then, he had a ‘drug’ problem as well.

I am proud of them both.
For different reasons. In different ways

I have bigger expectations for one. Maybe different. Not bigger.

I got to hear our 2nd son, The Preacher, do his thing Wednesday night at his youth group.
I had many emotions going on.
Thank you God for letting me be his mama.
Proud of him for using his gift of talking in front of people. He could be using his gift to sell ice cubes to Eskimos. Instead he CHOOSES to share God’s word.

Thank you God for bringing us to this!
From a single mama with two little boys to this.
God knew ALL ALONG this is where we would be. He wasn’t worried. He knew.

He knew that our oldest was going to keep us in our knees.
He knew that our second was going to us his gift for His Glory.
Does this mean that they will continue on the paths they are on?
No.
But He knows.

I trust Him, with every fiber of my being, when it comes to my children’s lives.
He knows much better than I when it comes to parenting.

These thoughts came about after feeling so proud of Boy Child 2 for doing God’s work.
Have I told Boy Child 1 I’m proud of him, even when he isn’t walking in the Lord’s will right now?
Whose standards does he have to live up to?
The worlds? Mine? God’s?
God’s are the only ones that matter.
Who am I to judge if Boy Child One is CHOOSING to live to his own.
That is between him and God.

Do you struggle with telling your kids you are proud of them? Do you feel you have to treat them equally?

Last year I chose Simple.
For the most part I did okay with following the Simple in my life.

This year my One Word is Faith.
With the direction our country is going I need to have Faith.
I prep for any type of possible scenario. I sometimes obsess with the possibilities of man made scenarios. Financial Collapse. EMP. That sort of thing.

I need to have Faith that He will be there NO.MATTER.WHAT.

I also need to have Faith in His guidance of our young adult boys. They both have new relationships that look as if they may have ‘found the one.’

2 Corinthians 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight
