I am a self taught canner. I have always had this perfect little daydream of being in the kitchen of the house my dad grew up in, in Northern Minnesota, with my grandma. Her teaching me all of her little tips on how to can. Alas, that was not to be so I taught myself. The hello YouTube.

Part of my preparedness lifestyle is eating healthy. I try the 80/20 rule. 80% healthy-20% not the best. (Lately it’s more 20/80) So when I saw that Daisy had finished another book, The Organic Canner, I was super excited. Canning, in and of itself is healthier than stocking up on store bought canned food. Fewer preservatives, less sugar, etc. Unless you are canning with organic food you are still running the risk of GMO’s, hormones, or anti-biotics, and as Daisy says, “mutated organisms that were begun in a petri dish at the labs of Monsanto.”

A 235 page self published recipe book.
The book includes

  • Canning 101
  • Jam recipes
  • Condiment recipes
  • Meat recipes (yes, you can can meat)
  • Meals in Jars (entire meals people!)
  • Soups and Stews

In the appendix she includes processing times for fruit and vegetables.

This book is super simple and has character. I was pleasantly surprised by the great recipes and informational content.
