A New Beginning

Wow, it has been a really long time! I thank you for sticking around, or at least stopping by occasionally. I have been blogging for something like 12 years now. Holy cow! I started out on blogspot as Crazy Homeschool Mama. Came to Mama Kautz where I continued my writing and sharing our homeschooling journey. I started integrating our homesteading knowledge which included canning, goats, and of course chickens. Then I went down the preparedness…

Seasons, They are a Changin’

The season is changing from summer to fall and the seasons of life for us are also changing. I recently wrote about the realtor asking me to share 10 things about our house that would help the new owners. Our house wasn't listed for 36 hours and it had 5 showings and two offers. The two offers were within dollars of each other. One offer stood out. They had written a letter. A letter saying…

I Was Part of the 47%

Then living in a long-term shelter or what would be known as a transitional housing. I had a one-year-old and a 2 1/2 year old boys. I received AFDC from the $546 a month. I also received Food-stamps, childcare,…

The Sexting Generation

Before I begin, this is NOT currently a problem in our home, but it is a problem in their generation. We are on our second round of teenagers. I am finding this second round a bit more daunting than the first. Let me tell you why. Cell phones! Our older two had them. Old flip style phones with texting. I don't think their first phones even had cameras. To get cell service at home you…

When giving directions you don't use street names, you use landmarks You didn't need to have the Birds and Bees talk with your parents. You have farm animals. Travel 'to town' is measured in time, not distance Cell Service and High Speed internet are luxuries The fair was the social event of the season You spend more time watching for Moose on the way to the neighbors than for cars You can still remember what…

Freezing Store Bought Tomato Sauce

Freezing store bought tomato sauce? You don't say. Yes, yes you can freeze store bought tomato sauce. I buy my tomato sauce for tacos, spaghetti, and chili ect. in the Costco #10 size can. Unless I am feeding an Army I don't use all of the sauce in one meal. I use Rubbermaid style containers to store the sauce. It would probably save space to use freezer bags. This is how much I got from…
