I know, I know….Nobody wants to go there. But I am going there today because this is a real thing. There are 2 females in this house. Add future daughters in law and you end up with 5 women. That, my friends, is a lot of monthly product.
Another reason that the reusable options are a good idea? Have you read what goes into menstrual products?

Stockpiling product

This was what I intended to do. Just stockpile a ton of pads and tampons and call it good.
Well. Not so much. Granted, I am no longer able to bear children, but that is still a lot of product to try and stock up on. I do what I can for the short term, but for the long term there has to be an alternative.

Washable cloth pads

There are a few brands out there that make washable pads or you can make your own.

Luna Pads are another alternative. They have more than just washable pads. Their colors are bright and fun making that time of the month a little more bearable.

There are many brands that can be found on Amazon.

Glad Rags
GladRags is out of Portland. They have washable cloths as well as a reusable silicon cup.
These guys have a cute little kit that you can buy with instructions on how to best care for your washables. You can find GladRagson Amazon or at GladRags.com

Another company is Pink Lemonade Stand. I have used them personally and would purchase from them again.

Reusable cup

Diva Cup is a reusable silicon cup. It is good for up to 12 hours of leak free protection. This is a good alternative to the washable cloths. Still, long term sanitation in getting it really clean comes to mind.

So, regardless of what you chose, make sure you are prepared for the long term. It isn’t something we like to think about, but when you are out of product it will be something you wished you had paid more attention to.
