Homemade Laundry Soap
One way I save my family money is by making my own laundry detergent. I have done this for years! I recently added Purification Blend.
A 5 gallon bucket of soap lasts us about 6 months. I add the essential oil 1-2 drops at a time, per load.
I do have a front load set, so I use liquid…not sure powder would work.
I recently read that Fels Naptha was bad for septic systems.
Thanks to twitter I found out, direct from the company, that it is indeed SAFE for septics.
Boiling down the shredded bar of Fels Naptha.
While that is boiling I have my Borax and Washing soda in a 5 gallon bucket. I pour HOT water into that so the powder dissolves
I use an old Salad Shooter to shred the soap. Just cutting it up finely would work. It just dissolves easier this way.
I store it in a 5 gallon bucket.
This is what it looks like after the process is done.
It will gel up overnight and it will be fine to use.
Just stir it as you use it. I use a ladle full per load. I would say about 1/2 cup.
Borax: $5 for a 76-oz. box
Washing soda NOT Baking Soda $3 for a 55-oz. box
Fels-Naptha bar soap (in the laundry section of Ace): $2 for 1 bar
-
1 bar of Fels Naptha soap, shaved
-
1 cup of borax
-
2 cups of washing soda
-
1 cup of baking soda
