Homeschooling High School

We are about to embark on year 7 of homeschooling. My second round of high school. You would think I could write a book about this subject. Alas, I am still a work in progress. Tweaking the plan, even mid year, to make it work for us.
Life is too short to be distraught over classes. That said, if you have a college bound child, even local community college, you will want to keep records. Even if your state doesn’t require it. If you don’t, you may or may not find yourself scrambling when that child you thought wasn’t going to go decides to. Ask me how I know.
So this round of high school I am writing down the classes taken as we take them so I don’t have to wrack this old brain trying to remember. Idaho doesn’t require any testing or paperwork. I will have a Freshman and a Jun….Jun…. ahem….Junior who is dual enrolling to get a head start on her AA in Theater.
Yes. I know I have said your homeschooler doesn’t need to go to college.
With my first two children this was the case. They went the vocational route as a Wildland Firefighter and a CNA. Did you know, for financial day purposes, your child has to use your income until they are 24, whether you support them financially or not. This is another post all on its own.
This second round are college bound. Theater and Gamer….yes there is college for the Gamer.
Theater degree will be our local North Idaho College. Gamer will be in Redmond and DigiPen.edu unless he can doit online. When we were researching colleges and came across DigiPen he saw pictures and said “Those are my people, I must go.” It was quite hilarious.
Here’s the plan:
Summer 2013 because we school year round
Finish Teaching Textbooks math
Ecology
Medieval history (this is for fun since we have done States and Govt. for over a year)
Spelling City for grammar and spelling
Live Budget class on Currclick
2013-14 School Year
Next level of Teaching Textbooks
Apologia Biology (possible online class via Currclick)
Economics 101 with Founder’s Academy via Currclick
Patriot History also with Founder’s Academy via Currclick
Spelling City (grammar and spelling are important to me)
Movies as Literature~ have to look into this more, not a definite.

I found out about the financial aspect of dependency when my daughter enrolled at the University here in town and it was ALL based on our income even though she’s paying 100% of her college.. Definitely something for parents to remember 🙂
So frustrating. They can fight for our country, but then they can’t support themselves financially?
I have used Movies as Lit with a 9th grader. We liked it. It’s thorough and covers everything you need to but appeals to kids who aren’t big readers. I recently wrote a big review on my blog. 🙂 Also our 18yo just graduated from high school and college with her AA just this past March. 🙂 It can be done!

Just came across this post again and realized I hadn’t told you that or oldest son’s best friend graduated from DigiPen! Very worthwhile school, very hard to get accepted into! Parker attended on campus but he was an art student. I didn’t think they had an online option.
