a very late M post….

Media…it is all around us all the time.

When I was little we had a black and white tv. I think we finally got cable when I was around 10 or 11.

Today my kids are inundated with media from ALL sides.

TV, computer, cell phones, video games…

There is no such thing as waiting for history in the making to be heard the next day or week (thinking WWII here….) They can see it on the TV as it is happening. Hear about stuff on the radio or from a text from a friend. Get on Facebook or go to Google something and it’s in their face.

How much of what they are hearing or seeing is true? Can they trust it?

Just last week I received a tweet about a boy who broke his neck cliff jumping at Tubb’s Hill. I called Tommy to make sure he was ok because my boys had JUST been doing the same thing.

Later that evening we find out that it is a boy in our social circle of friends and he in fact had slipped on some rocks and had fallen into the water.

He wasn’t diving at all.

So you can’t always believe what you hear…or read…

2010 Statistics….hours. not minutes, that they are involved in some sort of media.

What happened to just reading a book? I wonder if ADD and ADHD would be obsolete with out the over stimulation of media? I believe diet effects it, but what about TV? Don’t email me to bash that statement….I have an ADD’r and an ADHD’r. I am speaking from a mother’s experience.

(yes, I do see the irony of my receiving a tweet while talking about how my kids are over stimulated with media…..but I’m the mom) Smile
