So it’s finally summer here in North Idaho. With summer comes swimming. With swimming comes bathing suits….lots of scantily clad bodies all over the beach.
I took my younger two, ages 12 and 14 to Lake Coeur d Alene last week. What an eye opening experience that was!  I don’t mean eye opening oogly eyeing…I mean the we had to use our code word multiple time eye opening.
Now y’all know I have 3 boys ages 12, 19, and 20….I also have a 14 year old princess daughter.
We are fortunate that Emily really chooses to dress modestly. Rarely is there an issue with her attire. I have had discussions with my mom about how I dressed when I was her age….well mom..when you know better, you do better, and my daughter won’t be let out of the house looking even remotely as hookerish as I was. The Principal has had discussion with HIS mom about why Emily isn’t aloud to wear tank tops….it isn’t modest. She even knows she acts different if she has one on at home….she does wears a tankini if we are at the beach. Not a bikini….and sadly not a turtle neck like I requested.
My boys go without shirts at the beach. They are my boys and of course I think they are handsome. I am naïve to think they wont’ make a girl fall by their handsomeness….they need to cover it up as well….at their age they don’t listen to me much.
Speaking honestly here. When I see girls barely covering their bodies I want to do something! Either RANT at them for making my boy fall by oogly eyeing her…if it’s not on the ‘menu’ then cover it the heck up! Because she will dress that way then call my boy a pig for looking! OR go over and tell them what He thinks about modesty! That it isn’t lady like.  I could say the same for the guys whose pants are hanging down to their knees with their underwear poking out…my hope is that a true lady doesn’t think that is attractive…if they do then Lord help THEM!
I don’t want my kids to be modest just to cover up their bodies…or because the bible tells them to….I want them to be modest so they are loved for what shines through them. For what is on the INSIDE! Not for what the world says they should be or how they should look.
