Practice Bugout
We went camping….well, it was supposed to be a Bug out practice. It essentially ended up being a camping trip. I do have a “need to get this” list. We went with a group of other preppers from the city. While our plan for when the SHTF we will bug in ie: stay home, this was a good practice, albeit short. Always, always have a back-up plan.
I kept a little journal of how it went.
Friday:
6 pm on the road
8:15 camp is set and we are roasting hot dogs on the fire.
We met a group up here so thankfully there is fire was already going.
11 time to turn in.
1 am Is that a generator? I hear a generator!
3 am I gotta pee. Really?
7 rain! Phew. Didn’t last long.
7:20 Might as well get up
7:45 More rain. Get out the tarp. Best.purchase.ever!
8 Start breakfast
Go look for wood. We need a bigger fire.
10 breakfast is done. Sun is out. Listening to a group of guys debate science and God.
Emily is reading her bible 🙂 using a highlighter
10:15 BUGS. So many bugs!
11:50 Biscuits made in the Dutch oven. Yummm Even brought homemade jam. A little dark on the bottom, but Mmmm. That was so easy!
12:00 Stew simmering all day for dinner
2:00 The Principal gave us a class on how to use a chainsaw
5:00 Fed the whole camp dinner there was so much.
6:00 Got to shoot my first .22 That was fun! Let’s shoot stuff up
8:00 S’mores at the fire. Pretty sure there won’t be s’mores when SHTf
9:30 Zzzzzzzzz
7:00 Moooo Holy crap there’s a cow in camp. No. A bull! He wants the grass that we have put camp on.
8:45 Rise and shine. No. I just want to go home. My whole body aches from sleeping on the ground. I’m too old for this.
9:15 I do love cooking on cast iron. Pancakes were super simple. I don’t love not being able to just get a snack out of the fridge. Milk and ice will be missed. I need my iced coffee every morning. Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee. Mental note to at least invest in that propane coffee pot.
9:20 Pancakes anybody?
9:40 Rolling sleeping bags and cleaning up camp. Guys have gear gals have kitchen. It just worked that way.
11:20 AK47? Well sure I’ll shoot that. Thank.you.very.much. Was great to meet a group of militia guys. They weren’t weird at all. Great resource for us!
12:15 Heading home!
1:30 Unloaded the truck. So thankful to be home.
Bugging out will be a last resort. Unless, of course, there is a forest fire, then that is a given. The camping was fun though. Was even better to be unplugged for 36 hours.
