Going on a Bear Hunt

Last Sunday, after church, we went hiking. We came across this tree. We decided an elk had probabaly come across it and rubbed it's antlers on it. The kids decided to go UP this hill. I was okay watching from the bottom. Taking pictures. Like I do. We found some animal remains. Wed decided this was probably due to a coyote. Boy Child noticed a small magnifying glass on his compass. So. What else do…

Photo Walk

I call these outings School Outside the Classroom. The weather was amazing. We hadn't gone anywhere all week. I had to go to the library to pick up books that were on hold so it was only logical to go to the river. We went on a photo/nature walk. There was a hawks nest, lots of new vegetation, and warmth from the sun. They took pictures. They laughed. They played in the water. It was…

Comfort in the Mundane

Mundane. That is how I feel my life is. I am okay with it, it just doesn't make for great blog fodder. When I first started blogging it was to keep in contact with family. I was sharing our homeschool journey. Then I blogged through moms illnesses. Since I started I have 2 kids that have flown the coop and now have an 8th and a 10th grader who unschool. A far cry from 4…

Does Your Homeschooler HAVE to go to College?

Earlier this week I wrote about There's No Crying in Math! Another topic that is close to my heart is college. Does your homeschooler HAVE to go to college? This isn't about CAN they go. College's love homeschoolers. Homeschoolers, for the most part, are self starters and usually more disciplined than their public school counterparts. I went to a technical college and The Principal went to trade school. So no, neither of us went to…

There’s No Crying in Math

This is one of my favorite movies! A line I love to quote. As with most of our subjects in our homeschool I don't do crying. From the day I started homeschooling I haven't allowed crying. Do I make my child sit there and fuss over how hard it is? No. When I mean I don't do crying I mean that no subject is worth crying over. No subject is worth ruining our homeschool day…

Library and Education Services~TOS review

This curriculum wasn't without eye rolls from my almost 13 year old and is 15 year old sister. The cover says recommended for ages 6-14. It was a bit dated and the host was super the eye rolls. That almost 13 year old watched the ENTIRE DVD of Chemistry in one sitting. I would say the flames in one of the experiments didn't hurt with holding his attention. This is Christian curriculum. Although the host…

Homemade Crockpot Apple Butter

Safeway had a sale on organic apples. .99 a pound! So I bought a a few pounds. I ended up with 9 full trays for the dehydrator. I am hoping I can have enough to store. The kids eat it faster than I can vacuum seal it. I had a few left over so I decided to can some apple-butter. Because I am lazy I didn't bother to peal. I did wash them well though.…
