Zombie Apocalypse book review
This is the first review of a book from this genre. Although I am not sure if it goes under Zombies or Prepping.
Plan and Prep:Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse was a quick read.
You can get it at Amazon (affiliate link above) for $9.99 hard copy or .99 Kindle.
This book had some amount of entertainment value….meaning a Zombie Apocalypse is highly unlikely.
You follow the Jones family through different emergency scenarios where they have had to “bug out” or leave there home to their farm located a short drive out in the woods.
Bill saves and protects his family from a house fire, flash flooding, a pandemic where they actually “bugged in” or stayed home for as long as they could.
This was an easy, quick read. I would say quick because it was engaging and I think I read it in one sitting.
The author includes a BOB or Bug Out Bag list of musts. As well as a separate list for the kids bags.
He discusses having plans A, B, and C that the family is aware of and has practiced. ie: plan A being this is important but we have time to Plan C being we have 10 minutes to GOOD or Get Out Of Dodge.
He has a list of emergency essentials for the car as well.
Towards the end of the book the author touches on hunting, trapping, and growing your own food in case of a long term bug out.
He lists suggestions of self defense items as well as food and possible trade items.
I believe, for me, the entertaining part made this book engaging. I liked that there were the lists of suggestions, especially for the newbie prepper. I also liked that it was a family so I could relate to the characters.
I recommend this book to my non prepping friends. Seasoned preppers? It’s probably nothing you haven’t heard before.

Is a novel, or a series of scenario-lessons linked together? The reason I wonder, is that I would hold a novel to a different level of required realism, than I would something giving advise. I think a lot of people understand that “zombie” could be replaced with “your crazed starving neighbors shuffling around on their last leg.”
I am hoping that people even remotely interested in prepping as necessity knows that zombies aren’t real….
Russell,
The book is not a novel, it is categorized as “Non-Fiction” and “Education”.
You are completely correct in your understanding of the use of “zombies” in the book. I use Zombies to refer to the “great unknown disaster” lurking around the corner as well as a reference to anyone that is not prepared for an emergency or disaster and will be seeking assistance in one form or another.
The “stories” in the book are simply short narratives used to get the reader involved and help them understand the content better, as the book is written to be easily understood by preppers and non-preppers alike.
Although I enjoyed reading the review above, I do feel that seasoned preppers can still gain knowledge and understanding from the book as several recognized preppers have already done.
I appreciate the review and the comments. Thank you both for taking the time to interact about the book.
